Art Rotations: Animation

For animation the brief was Getting past first impressions.

It was the first week of the Foundation course and the first time we met our new classmates. We worked in small groups to help to get to know one another as well as due to how time consuming the process of animation is. Each of us created a story board for our animation, then through a group discussion decided which story board to follow.
We were shown the range of approaches to animation that you could take from stop-motion to 2D animation.

The story board that my group decide to go with was to have a stick man and each of us adding something to the drawing, for example a top hat or another stick person, and removing things from the drawing, mostly having fun at the stick man’s expense. At the end of the animation the stick man gets annoyed and tired of being ‘tortured’, finds a pencil and makes his escape from the page. We use a combination of 2D animation and 3D.

The animation was created using a white board, white board pens, tissues, a camera and a tripod. It took roughly five hours to complete.

I found this week fun and enjoyable, as animation has been one of the things that I have been interested in since childhood. It was interesting to find out the numerous ways of animate objects and create motion, something I would gladly try again.
